Farmhouse Salento is the best holiday that exists: when we talk about Salento, we think of Lecce, the Ionian Sea, Gallipoli, the possibility of spending a pleasant summer holiday, but Salento is much, much more, embracing a territory that starts in the Murgia and ends on the Ionian Sea.
Altosalento is a territory that extends in the northern part of the Salento peninsula, where the last offshoots of the Murge give way to the plain. It includes the central-north area of the province of Brindisi and part of the Itria Valley. It is a border area between the sub-regions of Salento and Murgia rea and has similar physical, cultural, social and economic characteristics, but at the same time, different from the lower Salento and Bari Murge inland.
Over the centuries, the Altosalento has consolidated its identity, made unique by the visible traces of the rural civilization founded on “stone” that has produced a unique rural architecture with trulli, farms and dry-stone walls.
Among the most representative cities are Brindisi, Ostuni, Ceglie Messapica, San Michele Salentino, Latiano, Oria, Francavilla Fontana, Mesagne, San Vito dei Normanni and Carovigno.
The gentle undulations of the southern Murge, which rarely exceed 350 meters above sea level, are home to the green Mediterranean scrub, with century olive trees, oaks, holm oaks, cork.
To the east the hills give way to the Adriatic Sea, which stretches for 40 km, with beaches and dunes covered by mediterranean vegetation alternating with sandy coves and cliffs. In these 40 km of coastline is included the Nature Reserve of Torre Guaceto, as well as the beaches of Carovigno and Ostuni that boast the recognition of the Blue Flag.
We often ask our guests what led them to choose a farmhouse in Salento as a travel destination.
And the answer is still the same: the word of mouth; the friend, colleague, relatives who came to Puglia who speaks well of our region.
The slow life is the mood that animates the traveler from Salento and even more the traveler who chooses a farmhouse in Salento.
The slowness here has a positive meaning, the patience of the farmer who carefully caresses a life made of social relationships and attention to others, the time that does not run away, but you live now.
Here you learn some simple rules for a better life.
1. Do less but do it well: better to stop than hurry neglecting time and details.
2. no to hyper-connection. At Masseria Le Terrazze in Serranova we don’t have television, thinking that it is a way to enjoy the places, landscapes, meetings or simply our travel friend. Turn off your pc, mobile phone and the Internet and live what’s around you.
3. Enjoy the landscapes: give value, involve all the senses in the discovery of nature.
4. Eat slowly: taste every single taste, precious or less precious, that may seem to you.
5. Find beauty in everything: seeking pleasure, even small, in our daily lives must become an exercise and continuous training.
6. Focus on one thing at a time: “multitasking” increases the risk of making mistakes.
7. Breathe to the fullest: here you can afford it.
And if you just can’t slow down, spend some time with our donkeys, they’ll teach you to do it, we are waiting for you in tehe best Farmhouse Salento!
