Spending a holiday in an Farmhouse in Carovigno or a Masseria in Carovigno is one of the best choices you can make, because: Torre Guaceto is a magical place; it could be in the winter, a glimpse of Cornwall, like a Nordic landscape. And anyone who arrives in this corner of Alto Salento – whether it’s sunny or a light drizzle, is fascinated by the landscape. You feel you are “elsewhere”: the eye ranges from the green of the plain to the blue of the Adriatic Sea. We are in the Protected Sea Area, the Torre Guaceto Reserve, a paradise of Mediterranean vegetation that runs along eight kilometers of coastline. And in the middle stands the Torre Guaceto Aragonese Tower (gives its name to the air), a square-shaped watchtower, with three embrasures with arches on each side, built in the fourteenth century by Charles of Anjou to counter the landings of the Saracens. Inside it preserves the historical-artistic installation of a Roman ship, used for the transport of oil and wine in the terracotta amphorae and realized by one of the most famous master carpenters, Mario Palmieri. Torre Guaceto thanks to its position can see the other towers of the territory of Carovigno, about fourteen. Another one is in Torre Santa Sabina village , one of the three towers, in Italy, to have the Star Plan called “a priest’s hat” with the four corners oriented towards the cardinal points and the crenellated crowning. Many others are located in the territory of Carovigno, a town of Messapian origins (discoveries confirm its existence as early as the eighth century BC), which is striking for the white of the houses and the narrow alleys. Among these, there is Torre Gironda circular and partly hidden in the town of the historic center. Inside there is an oven that once supplied the castle or the Clock Tower, because there were the civic signs of the city. While walking, you discover the fourteenth-century Mother Church dedicated to the Assumption. A gem is the decorated rosette that looks like a stone embroidery, on a hidden side aisle, testimony of the urban transformations that occurred over the centuries. On 21 June, the day of the summer solstice, the midday sun “enters” the church and projects the reflected “photograph” of the rose window into the church. And then you arrive at the Dentice di Frasso castle (free entrance) in the highest part and which is characterized by the almond tower that recalls the bow of a ship. In the courtyard, decorated with ficus, palms and four plane trees, you can admire the Angevin tower of the fourteenth century and the scenic Grifoni staircase. Choosing a farmhouse in Carovigno as a destination for your holiday, will mean having a privileged access to these places rich in nature, culture and history.
The Village of Serranova is the gateway to the protected sea area of Torre Guaceto, but it is also a starting point to go to the white city of Ostuni or reach in a few minutes Brindisi or San Vito dei Normanni. Masseria le Terrazze di Serranova is a country house in Carovigno, located in the Serranova countryside, in a central position with respect to the most important cultural and naturalistic sites of the region.
