Apulia or Puglia, has an appeal that responds to the trends of national and international tourism: spaces of unspoiled nature and charming villages, magical places like the Trulli of Alberobello that do not exist anywhere else in the world, UNESCO World Heritage, churches, palaces, castles. It is the land where the olive trees play a role in the landscape but also for the production of extra virgin olive oil – whose healthy properties are known – among the best in the world; wines of excellence produced from vines typical of our places; gastronomic products: from dairy products to the canning industry, to pastry, equally excellent. And starred chefs who have linked their name to the typical cuisine of our territory.
In every time, in Apulia, there is something to do. It starts with the Focara of Novoli (the rite of fire), in January; in February the Carnival of Putignano, at Easter time with the poignant rites of the Holy Week from Gargano to Salento. And in summer, of course, the crystal clear waters of the Maldives of Salento are a good reason to pack your bags.
Nevertheless,still today, someone asks us ten good reasons to choose an Italian farm house, best accomodation in Puglia and so we would like to try to persuade again, the last undecided.
1. Puglia has 800 kilometres of coastline with breathtaking beaches and cliffs from Gargano to Salento, between the Adriatic and the Ionian sea;
2. Puglia has many of the most beautiful villages in Italy, magical places for a walk or to spend a romantic stay alone or in couple;
3. The Gravine of Taranto are a must for hikers;
4. The paths of the Via Francigena: do you imagine walking in Apulia, going on long excursions or, worse still, a bit of healthy trekking?
5. The architecture, from Romanesque to Baroque;
6. History in amphitheatres, castles, fortresses and fortifications;
7. archaeological sites where you can admire prehistoric remains, such as dolmens and menhirs or dinosaur footprints (the “dinosaur walk” in the Alta Murgia Park just to name one);
8. Handicrafts: the ceramics of the Grottaglie, the objects of Rutigliano, the stone of Apricena and Trani, the papier-mâché of Lecce, the lace of Alberobello;
9. a calendar of festivals, fairs, processions and rituals, historical re-enactments, concerts, pizzica at will (such as the Night of the Taranta of Melpignano);
10. a cuisine for every taste, from seafood to land dishes, with roots in the peasant tradition, rediscovered thanks to the Slow Food Company and excellent wines (Primitivo, Negroamaro, Malvasia, Salento);
If in the summer time, the beaches and cliffs are crowded we would like to give you an alternative to come in. Spend your holiday in an Italian farmhouse in Puglia with swimming pool, you can relax in the cool of the olive trees, or you can dine on the terrace in the cool of the pine trees. However, I believe that Puglia has a magic summer, when the dunes are covered with wild lilies, in the pine forests you can listen to the chirping of the cicadas, when the weather slows down … between days at the beach and long nights under the stars.
Come to Apulia in late spring, maybe this one.
